Round Two… (36 Days to Departure)

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”       -Mark Twain

It’s February and those close to me know exactly what that means…trip planning! Yes, after my wonderful Brussels experience last year, I have decided to enroll in the exact same class to go somewhere that is famed in song and film: Italy.

My super intelligent and always delightful professor, Dr. Morris (I hope you’re reading this Dr. M) has chosen to whisk our class off to the land of fine wines, cheese, Ferrari and umm…Italians! Our itinerary has us traveling between the cities of Florence, Venice and Milan to experience everything from Ducati to homemade glass blowing to the romantic gondolas of Venice and of course the fashion capital of the world. The entire experience is bound to be absolutely incredible and is accented by those who are going along. Along with myself, we have five returning members of last years Belgium trip eager to see how this years trip will compare.

Up to this point, I have had four classes regarding this trip and when compared to last years class, they are quite similar in construction but of course differ in content. The first one occurred on the 16th of January and is often the most fun. We discussed our travel itinerary, where we will stay, business appointments and of course which airline we will be traveling on. I cannot remember if I mentioned the awfulness hell-hole that was United last year so this year we were praying, hoping, wishing and had bribery money in hand to make sure that it wasn’t United and as it turns out we will be flying with….Delta!

As much as we are all looking forward to the time in country, how we get there can really set the tone for the entire trip and knowing that we should have a nice long relaxing flight to our destination with stops in Paris and NYC.

The opening quote from Mark Twain is a new idea I had with the inspiration from my very good friend Lauren this morning who is also joining me on this trip. Nothing is sexier than being able to quote fancy writers and I hope to insert a new one with every post I have regarding Italy. With any luck, it will give my readers an insight as to why I love to travel so much and how it is one of the most important things in my life. Now I just need to come up with the perfect sign off…

Remember to always pee sitting down!
