An Addition to the Family

Let’s start this post off with a nice little pause…

…there, wasn’t that nice? It is now June and Lauren and i have been engaged for six whole months now and it is truly remarkable how far we’ve come in that time span. “But” you may ask yourself, “Devin, this post isn’t categorized as ‘wedding!'” You are very correct my wise and astute reader. This isn’t a wedding post but rather a good ol’ fashioned blog post about a significant event in our lives.

no. just.....no. not that
                            no. just…..no. not that

Lauren and I come from big animal families and each of us enjoy the company of a furry critter or two. The biggest problem we have had in the past about getting a pet is our current living situation. Prior to moving in with each other, Lauren was living with her parents who have had pets in the past but wasn’t under the impression her father would let her have another one. Then there’s me who lived in a tiny apartment with an even tinier written NO PETS clause in the lease agreement, so suffice it to say, neither one of us were getting anything warm and cuddly anytime in the near future.

sorry Mr. Willard, the duck :(
sorry Mr. Willard, the duck 😦

Now, with that being said, all of that changed once Lauren and I moved in together in an actual house that has a basement, garage and yard! As we evaluate our now grownup lifestyle we could rediscuss the opportunity of acquiring a new friend. So…..that’s exactly what we did. Everybody, meet Charlie!

Charlie
He’s the little guy in the middle

Charlie was a stray and the Central Nebraska Humane Society picked up in late May and since then has been going through many traumatic issues: Neuter, lung infection, not to mention the fact that he’s been moved around a bit so he’s never had much of a home. Lauren found him on the humane society’s website a little over a week ago and after getting approval from our landlord, he was just a hundred miles away. Special thanks go our to my parents who were kind enough to visit him first to make sure he was loving and cute dog we thought he was. They weren’t disappointed.

We don’t know exactly what type of dog he is, but we do know that he is a melting pot of breeds. We’ve had him for about a week now and have already found Schnauzer and some sort of terrier just dying to come out. It seems that everybody that meets him finds him absolutely adorable. I’m pretty sure the ears are what take the cake.

Lauren and I are both extremely elated to have another dog in our lives. I have no doubt that Charlie will bring so a lot of joy and poop into our lives. He’s already become one of the family, and who know? he may be the perfect ring bearer…..
