A Journeys End

Accommodations: Quinci Villa, Singgigi

I haven’t posted anything since our departure from Bali for two reasons: the first, the activities we’ve done haven’t allowed for pictures and the second, those that we do have pictures for we’re either taken from someone else or is on Lauren’s phone…unfortunately I’m not able to extract them here. So I’m going to attempt to sum up the past four days in one post. Here it goes…

Our speedboat from Bali took about an hour and half to reach the island of Lombok, which we would argue was a little longer than we wished it would have. Due to an incoming storm, the ocean was very very rough and by the grace of one (or multiple) gods (or the massive amount of Dramamine we took)  neither one of us got sick.

But we made it, at last to our final stop of this journey, Senggigi, a small town on the island of Lombok. Situated due east from the island of Bali, Lombok is about the same physical size of Bali but only has half the people (around 2 million). This is due to the rougher terrain the makes up the island as large hills and small mountains makes for a generally undeveloped piece of land.

We arrived at our hotel around 4 in the afternoon and with most of the day gone (the sun has been setting around 5:30) we had an early dinner, checked out the amenities of the resort and headed to bed.

The next few days were full of island exploration and adventure as we took a private boat out to Gili Meno, one of three Gili islands and sit on the northwestern shore of Lombok. Here we were able to rent snorkeling gear and waded out from the shore to view a beatiful display of oceanic fish and a stunning barrier reef that lines the west side of the island. The excursion was absolutely thrilling and we only have back with a few scrapes from the coral and a massive sunburn.

(We don’t have an underwater camera so no photos) ☹️

The next morning, we had my most anticipated activity for the entire trip…surfing lessons. At 8:00, our surfing instructor picked us up from the hotel to head down to his surf shop to grab our gear and boards and walk to a beautiful stretch of Senggigi beach. After a 5 min land tutorial, we hit the water and within just a few moments, Lauren and I were catching our very first waves…and falling off our boards a lot.

(Photos were taken by the surfing crew. If you’d like to see them, you’ll have to ask me personally as I can’t upload them until we’re back)

Finally, on our last day in Indonesia we decided to take it slow. A late breakfast in bed and an all day agenda of relaxating by the pool with a cold drink in hand and the one I love sitting next by. The day was only interrupted by the occasional waiter asking for a refill and the odd meal. Begin able to reflect back on this glorious and exotic adventure make us both feel extraordinary blessed to be experiencing these things, together, as husband and wife. All of which could not have been possible without those of you who were generous enough to contribute to our first journey as a married couple. So on behalf of Lauren and myself….
