As the wedding continues to come together, I realize that there are a lot of things about wedding that I had zero idea about until I got engaged. For instance, did you know that you’re supposed to have a date and venue set within 24 hours of getting engaged? That timeframe seems a bit aggressive but based on the questions that Lauren and I got during that time, I can only assume that’s the norm.

I don't know what I'm getting her for our fifth year anniversary, so stop asking!

While Lauren is abnormally organizational in the wedding planning department, we didn’t have a specific venue in mind prior to our engagement which allowed us to do our due diligence and begin researching venues in the Omaha area to discover the most beautiful and “us” site that would paint the best picture for that evening together. After looking at about four or five different choices, it ended up being an unanimous decision. A place so wonderful, so unique and more importantly the perfect place for all of our loved ones to have a great night…

…Bella Terre. Bella Terre is a vineyard located near Glenwood, Iowa (about 15 minutes from midtown Omaha) and sits on the rolling hills of the Midwest. It’s scenic surroundings resonate with Lauren and my history but most importantly is the overall theme of the facility. This isn’t some generic dance hall with gym flooring, stage and suffocating lack of lighting. This is a space so elegantly crafted and specifically designed to bring out the best of Italian culture, architecture and ambiance.

I really don’t want to get into the specifics of the venue primarily because there is a shock and awe factor associated with it. In fact, the two times we went, I actually said “wow.”

Because of the day we are getting married, we have decided to hold the ceremony and reception at Bella Terre. The ceremony will be outside in front of Heaven’s Gate overlooking the rolling plains and two hundred or so of our closest family and friends sitting in stereotypical white folding chairs. The ceremony itself should last no longer than 30 minutes and from then, proceed to the open reception area inside where dinner and dancing will take place.

When we toured Bella Terre for the first time, the “realness” of what Lauren and I are doing really hit for the first time. While meticulously planning out an engagement or being so nervous I thought I was going to have a stroke when I asked her parents for permission does bring up a lot of emotions, touring this venue with Lauren really made this experience real. This was the place where Lauren and I will be bounded together and begin the rest of our lives…and I can hardly wait.
