Back to Paradise

Another year comes another ambitious, long awaited vacation to another remote spot on the globe. Since we last talked, plenty of new things have happened. I started a new position at CVS, Lauren and I moved from Texas to South Dakota and after enduring our first South Dakota winter, have been over the moon in anticipation for our next adventure to Mauritius.

We did not know we’d be living in South Dakota at the time we booked this trip, but a vacation to a remote island in the middle of the Indian Ocean is the perfect tonic to a very cold and very precipitous winter.

Actual picture of the fort I made in my backyard this winter. I was looking for an absurd winter photo online, but couldn’t match this level of ridiculousness.

As some may recall, Mauritius was originally planned during the COVID year of 2021, where the combination of having been cooped up for months on end and simultaneously living in Texas, we were desperate to find a country that was open and accepting of visitors. Since Mauritius wasn’t open at the time of our planned dates, we ended up traveling to the Seychelles that year, but always kept it in the back of our minds for a subsequent excursions. Fast forward to the spring of 2022, where we we’re contacted by our lovely agent at Audley indicating that we could go in 2023 for the same price, we booked post haste.

For those of you wondering, Mauritius is a tropical island set in the Indian Ocean just east of Madagascar. Even though our flight/travel time comes in just under 40 hours total, we will have the lush, mountainous retreat of Chamarel, flush with cascading waterfalls, and of course, the tranquil lapping of waves upon their numerous stunning white sand beaches awaiting our arrival. This trip will be very reminiscent of our Seychelles adventure where we will fly by the seat of our pants and do our best to fill every second with a new experience!

But not too much adventure.

Talk to you in a few days!
